Dr. Jess’ Story
Here’s the short version:
Burnout isn’t glamorous. I’ve had it twice in my career, once as a therapist and again near the end of my doctoral program. I get it.
That’s why I made it my mission to learn how to deal with burnout better, both for myself and for everyone else bound to encounter it in their careers.
Learning how to ignite your spark is freedom now — and into the future.
I show people how to do that.

I see your burnout. And I’m not ashamed of mine.
I know that burnout can hit at any stage in life. It isn’t reserved for a mid-life crisis in your 40s.
For me, it was my mid-twenties when I found myself completely drained.
My intense work life as a therapist, providing endless hours of therapy and carrying a large emotional load, ultimately led me to a state of total burnout — you know, the really bad kind where to fix it, your whole life has to implode?!
I was fed up from feeling exhausted, lost, stuck, and like the world was always on my shoulders. So, I decided that no matter what it would cost, and no matter what it would take (a bit more than I thought it would)…
I’d fix this work plague for myself and others.
My solution? I ditched the boyfriend, relocated to a new city in pursuit of my PhD (and answers), and set out on my mission. I became an expert in burnout and meaning-making, but just as I was rounding the corner of completing my studies and ramping up in a high-profile consulting job, it hit me…
I had pushed so hard, that my familiar foe found me… AGAIN. I’d totally burned myself out. Oops!
This time I was prepared. I knew the signs, how to get unstuck, and how to recoup some energy quickly (this time, without blowing up my entire life and everything I worked so hard for).
Now, I have a healthy career that I happen to love. And now that burnout has gotten unfortunately trendy, I’m trying to share even more of my best tips to help everyone avoid the most common career mistakes, saving an incredible amount of time, money, and frustration along the way.
I understand the entrepreneurial life is not for everyone, but it is one that suits me fairly well. It enables me to live out my passions, have balance for my intellectual pursuits and for the things that give me the creative spark. It also allows me to attend to what’s important to me outside of my career life.
Coaching - helping individuals make the most out of their careers (and lives) makes me happy. Saving people the time and frustration that I went through burning out brings me great satisfaction.
Consulting & Teaching - working with leaders and companies who want to have human-centered practices helps me make a difference in the corporate fabric. When we know better, we do better. I love learning and teaching in all forms.
Managing a team at Firehouse Glass - growing up in the art business has taught me a lot practically about running a business, but has also paved the way for my own creative and professional outlets, and an awesome team I get to help support in my local arts community. (We offer team building and lessons if you’re in the Portland, OR area!)
Creative endeavors - my home office is also a creative space. That’s why it’s yellow (my favorite color); it’s bright, sunny, and it sparks joy and energy for me. I need to make time to craft, do glass work, sew, or otherwise get in touch with my creative side to feel grounded.
The Lueck Group - is the company that allows me to keep my spark lit by creating and delivering coaching and consulting programs to individuals and organizations. I founded it with my Dad back in 2019 so that we could both do the work we wanted to do, and now part of that is incubating really cool programs like everything you see here.
Work is what you make it. So I make mine something I like.
I make small glass figures on the torch! I was 10 when Firehouse Glass opened and the ranks of family business enabled a favorite hobby!
I don’t do much solo furnace-style glassblowing. My family has some of the most skilled glass artists around, so I’ll call myself more of a glassblowing designer! I love to be around it, but I’m better suited to managing our crew, lessons, and gallery.
